Square Basket

150m of cord will make you a big ol' square basket like this. You'll need an 8-9mm hook to give you a nice tight tension. The finished basket will measure around 28cm square by 14cm high.

Written in UK crochet terms: dc = double crochet, st = stitch, ch = chain

Numbers in brackets are the stitch count

Round 1: Using colour A - make a slip knot, ch 2, 6dc into 2nd ch from hook, slip st into 1st st, ch 2 [6sts]

Round 2: Dc into same st, *(2dc)*, repeat from * to * round, slip st into 2 Ch,  ch 2 [12sts]

Round 3: Dc into same st, *dc, (2dc)*, repeat from * to * 4 times, dc, slip st into 2 Ch, ch 2 [18sts]

Round 4: Dc into same st, *dc 2, (2dc)*, repeat from * to * 4 times, dc 2, slip st into 2 Ch, ch 2 [24sts]

Rounds 5-7: Continue to increase the circle to 42 stitches round by adding 1 to the number of stitches between the increase (in bold) each round.

Round 8: Dc 8, (3dc), dc 10, (3dc), dc 9, (3dc), dc10, (3dc), slip st into 2 Ch, ch 2 [50sts]

Round 9: Dc 10, (3dc), dc 12, (3dc), dc 11, (3dc), dc 12, (3dc), slip st into 2 Ch, ch 2 [58sts]

Round 10: Dc 12, (3dc), dc 14, (3dc), dc 13, (3dc), dc 14, (3dc), slip st into 2 Ch, ch 2 [66sts]

Round 11: Dc into FLO of every st, slip st into 2 Ch, ch 2 [66sts]

Round 12: Dc into every st, slip st into 2 ch, ch 2 [66sts]

Rounds 13-16: Repeat Round 12

Round 14: Change to colour B, repeat Round 12

Round 15: Dc 19, ch 7, skip 6 sts, dc 26, ch 7, skip 6 sts, dc 5, slip st into 2 Ch, ch 2 [51sts, 14chs]

Round 16: Dc 20, (2dc) into each ch, dc 25, (2dc) into each ch, dc 4 [77sts]

Round 17: Dc into every st, slip st into 2 Ch, fasten off and weave in ends [77sts]
